We wanted it to be bright, with industrial details but welcoming and comfortable. We wanted spaciousness in the living areas but privacy in the private areas. We wanted tidiness and functionality. We wanted a house for a large family.
And in the process, the family grew. And, welcoming, the house welcomed.

This is a holiday home, a weekend home, a home without time. A house of long evenings at the dinner table, sitting, lying on the sofa talking, reading, being. This house is primarily a social house and it was necessary to rethink it like that. Open the kitchen that closed in on itself, restructure the number of small rooms. This intervention involves providing comfort and improving communication between spaces, favoring conviviality and creating a transversal language that lies between rustic and contemporary.

A house for a single man. The original spatial organization of the house is maintained, only increasing the fluidity between the living room and the kitchen, so that conviviality is promoted. A gap is opened so that the light greets the entrance circulation. The materials - walnut and marble - reinterpret the past, in a more restrained, masculine and current version.

On the outskirts of Lisbon, in an urbanization just over a decade old, a family buys a house. May it serve the couple and their two, perhaps more, children. The remodeling essentially involves streamlining communication between the living room and the kitchen, places of primary coexistence, accepting oak as the existing wood and using it to highlight transitions, bringing the comfort that only wood allows.

A house for an unknown end client. The program remains versatile to open up possibilities for appropriation. The house itself remains faithful to its origins, in its typology, in its structure, in the chosen materials, in the carpentry details. Multiple layers of paint were removed from the original stonework and its raw appearance of natural stone was restored. Add storage and light and wait for the final customer.

It was born from a simple desire for greater functionality for a contemporary family. In terms of spatial changes, the main objective was simply to enlarge the room and make one of the bathrooms social, maintaining the privacy of the rooms and, at the same time, creating tidiness. Everything else is infrastructure and materials that try to respect the identity of the house.

The house had already undergone some interventions in the late 90s, but the entire structure, carpentry, moldings, from the date of its construction had been preserved. From then on, the objective would be to remove all the rustic revivalism of this last intervention and, maintaining the entire original structure of the house, prepare it for the coming decades.

In Areeiro, a house that still maintained almost all of its original spatial organization and with it the duplication of circulation and its respective waste of space, but also the doors, moldings, skirting boards and solid wood parquet flooring. The remaining materials had already been changed sometime in the 90s. It now remained to return the house to some of its original materiality and open it up to current times.
